Talking Solar on LMFM: Eco Energy Improvements and the Green Energy Evening in Darver

Updated: Sep 16

In the days leading up to the Green Energy Information Evening at Darver Community Centre, Dermot McElroy of Eco Energy Improvements joined Gerry Kelly on LMFM’s Late Lunch Show to talk about the event and share the benefits of solar energy with listeners across Louth and the northeast.

It was a brilliant opportunity to spread the word, invite the local community to attend, and explain why solar power is becoming one of the most effective ways for Irish households and businesses to cut costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

If you missed the interview, you can listen back here:

Bringing the Community Together Around Renewable Energy

The evening was designed to give people practical, local insights into how green technologies – from solar PV panels to heat pumps and electric vehicles – can reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. What was most striking was the level of enthusiasm: the room was packed with homeowners, business owners, and community members eager to learn how they could benefit from going green.

Eco Energy Improvements specialises in solar panel installation in Dundalk and the northeast of Ireland, helping households and businesses cut their electricity bills and generate clean, renewable energy directly from their rooftops.

Local Support and Collaboration

This event was a true community effort. A special thank you goes to Stephen Hoey, Chairperson of Darver Community Centre, for not only suggesting the idea but also allowing us to host it in such a welcoming venue.

Ardee Credit Union deserves recognition for sponsoring the evening and sharing their excellent green finance options, as well as bringing some fun to the night with their spin-the-wheel prizes.

We were also delighted to welcome Dundalk Chamber CEO John McGahon and Dundalk County Councillor John Reilly, whose presence and support meant a great deal.

Spotlight on Local Green Businesses

The evening featured an incredible line-up of local businesses, each offering sustainable solutions to help households and businesses make greener choices.

Eco Energy Improvements – Solar PV Systems

As the organisers, we were proud to showcase how solar PV panels allow homeowners and businesses to generate electricity directly from their rooftops. Solar panels can significantly reduce energy bills, provide protection against rising energy costs, and help achieve Ireland’s carbon reduction targets. With battery storage, customers can also store excess power for use at night or on cloudy days, making solar a reliable long-term investment.

Ardee Credit Union – Green Finance Options

Making the switch to renewable energy can sometimes feel financially daunting, but Ardee Credit Union makes it easier with dedicated green finance packages. They offer affordable loans to cover solar panels, heat pumps, electric vehicles, and other upgrades. This ensures that more families and businesses in Louth can access clean energy without the upfront cost being a barrier.

Heat Pumps Ireland – Thermia Heat Pumps

With over 20 years of experience, Heat Pumps Ireland is a trusted name in renewable heating. They showcased their next-generation Thermia heat pumps, which provide highly efficient heating and hot water using renewable energy from the air or ground. Heat pumps not only reduce household heating costs but also eliminate reliance on fossil fuels, offering a sustainable alternative for modern Irish homes.

John McCabes Motors – Electric Nissan Cars

John McCabes Motors demonstrated the benefits of switching to electric vehicles with their range of Nissan EVs. Electric cars offer lower running costs, reduced maintenance, and zero tailpipe emissions – making them a cleaner, smarter choice for everyday driving. As Ireland expands its EV charging infrastructure, going electric has never been more practical.

The Bike Station – Electric Bikes

For shorter journeys and daily commutes, The Bike Station presented their selection of electric bikes. E-bikes provide a sustainable and healthy alternative to cars, making local trips faster, cheaper, and greener. They’re also a great way to cut down on emissions while enjoying the outdoors, with the added bonus of assisted pedalling for those uphill stretches.

Fine Living Timber Frames – Timber Frame Homes

Fine Living Timber Frames highlighted their innovative and sustainable approach to construction. Timber frames are not only environmentally friendly but also energy-efficient, helping homeowners reduce heating bills. Their unique designs offer durability, speed of construction, and lower environmental impact compared to traditional building methods.

Prestige Windows + Doors – Sustainable Glazing Solutions

Energy efficiency often starts with keeping heat in and draughts out. Prestige Windows + Doors showcased their range of high-performance glazing solutions that reduce energy loss, improve comfort, and cut heating costs. By upgrading windows and doors, households can significantly improve energy ratings and lower their carbon footprint.

Meegan Insulations – Insulation Experts

No green upgrade is complete without insulation. Meegan Insulations explained how proper home insulation reduces heat loss, lowers energy consumption, and improves comfort all year round. As one of the most cost-effective energy-saving measures, insulation remains a key step toward creating an energy-efficient home.
