Few institutions hold as much meaning in Dundalk as Dundalk Golf Club. It’s more than just a golf course - it’s a meeting place, a home for sporting excellence, and a reflection of the values that define our town: tradition, camaraderie, and pride. For us at Eco Energy Improvements, it’s also a partner in our shared commitment to progress and sustainability.
That’s why Eco Energy Improvements was proud to sponsor this year’s Cochrane Cup—and it was a real honour for Dermot McElroy, alongside Gerry McDermott, to present the trophy to the winner, Kevin Barry, who secured victory on countback with an impressive score of 66.
Kevin's performance was outstanding, and the atmosphere on the day was electric, filled with friendly competition, local pride, and a real sense of connection. But our involvement didn’t end with handing over a trophy. Our journey with Dundalk Golf Club runs deeper and is powered, quite literally, by a shared vision of a cleaner, greener future.

The Cochrane Cup: A Tradition of Excellence
For those unfamiliar with the Cochrane Cup, let us paint the picture. It’s one of the club’s most respected competitions, steeped in tradition and revered by members. Taking part in the Cochrane Cup is both a challenge and an honour, a chance to etch your name into the fabric of a club that has stood for decades as a symbol of sport and social connection in Dundalk.
The event brings together some of the best local talent, and with that comes a unique energy: a mixture of nerves, determination, and good-natured rivalry. It's a day where golfers of all ages come out to test themselves against both the course and each other. And while the competition is fierce, it’s always rooted in respect and a genuine love for the game.
Being there, trophy in hand, reminded us why we invest in community. There’s something special about standing alongside passionate people, celebrating achievements that are about more than just scores, they're about perseverance, heritage, and the power of community sport.
Dundalk Golf Club: More Than a Club
Established in 1905, Dundalk Golf Club is a fixture of our town’s identity. With a stunning 18-hole championship course and spectacular views over Dundalk Bay and the Cooley Mountains, it’s not just a club for members, it’s a source of pride for the entire region.
But what sets Dundalk Golf Club apart isn't just the quality of its course, it's the way it has embraced the future without losing sight of its roots. That balance of tradition and innovation is something we understand well at Eco Energy Improvements.
Last year, we partnered with the club to bring their sustainability ambitions to life by installing 190 solar panels on-site. It was a major step in reducing the club’s energy consumption and environmental impact, while also cutting energy costs in a real, tangible way.
190 Solar Panels, One Shared Goal
Installing 190 panels on a site like Dundalk Golf Club isn’t a small job. It requires careful planning, technical precision, and a deep understanding of the club’s needs—not just today, but for the decades ahead.
What made this project so rewarding wasn’t just the scale of it, but the alignment of values. The club recognised that being a community leader also means being environmentally responsible. They didn’t just want to talk about sustainability, they wanted to act on it.
These panels now generate clean, renewable energy for the club, offsetting a significant portion of its electricity usage. That means lower emissions, lower costs, and a future-focused investment that benefits members, staff, and the wider Dundalk community.

Why This Matters to Dundalk—and to Us
Supporting events like the Cochrane Cup and installing solar panels might seem like two different things—but to us, they’re deeply connected. Both reflect our commitment to being part of something bigger than ourselves.
Whether we’re standing on the green at a trophy presentation or up on a roof fitting panels, we’re driven by the same goal: to support our community in meaningful, lasting ways.
Dundalk is our home. It’s where we live, work, and raise our families. It’s where we know the people behind the businesses, the volunteers behind the clubs, and the stories behind the buildings. So when we get the chance to support local institutions—through both events and infrastructure—we see it not as a corporate gesture, but a personal investment in our shared future.
More Than Solar: A Broader Mission
Eco Energy Improvements was founded on the idea that energy solutions should serve people—not the other way around. Our work is about more than just installations; it’s about relationships, trust, and impact.
That’s why we continue to sponsor events, donate to causes, and physically participate in local challenges like the Cross Cooley Challenge, where our very own Thomas and Deirdre McGeough took part this year to help raise funds for the Maria Goretti Foundation and the North Louth Hospice.
From charity hikes to golf sponsorships to large-scale solar installations, our involvement always stems from the same place: our belief that a business can (and should) be a force for good.

Looking Ahead: Greener Greens and Brighter Days
The success of the Cochrane Cup is a reminder of what’s possible when tradition and vision meet. It shows that we can honour the past while boldly stepping into the future.
For Dundalk Golf Club, that future is now partially powered by the sun. And for us, that’s the perfect metaphor for where we’re headed—not just as a company, but as a community.
We’ll continue to support clubs like Dundalk Golf Club. We’ll keep helping families and businesses across the northeast go green. We’ll stay grounded in the belief that clean energy, strong relationships, and local pride can work hand-in-hand to create something truly special.
