Exciting news for homeowners across Ireland: the government has confirmed that the maximum grant for rooftop solar panels will remain at €1,800 next year, instead of being reduced to €1,500 as previously planned. This decision ensures that solar energy remains an accessible and cost-effective option for households nationwide.

A Solar Revolution in Ireland
Speaking at the COP30 climate conference in Brazil, Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy Darragh O’Brien described Ireland’s solar sector as a “solar revolution.”
Nearly one gigawatt of power is now being generated from rooftops across the country, including farm buildings, rivaling the output of large solar farms.
With last year seeing 28,000 grant applications for rooftop solar panels—and an expected 33,000 applications in 2025—the momentum behind solar adoption shows no signs of slowing.
In total, 155,000 rooftops in Ireland now feature solar panels, powering homes and reducing energy bills.
Why This Solar Grant Decision Matters
The grant, administered under the SEAI scheme, helps homeowners offset the cost of installing solar panels. By keeping the maximum grant at €1,800 for 2026, the government ensures:
Solar energy remains affordable for households, especially amid rising energy costs.
Continued growth in Ireland’s clean-energy sector.
Support for the thousands of skilled solar installers across the country.
Industry leaders have welcomed the decision. Ronan Power, CEO of Solar Ireland, called it “a smart and fair decision” that sustains Ireland’s solar momentum while keeping installations safe and high-quality.
Meanwhile, Ciarán Kells, Chair of the Micro Renewable Energy Federation, emphasized the positive impact for homeowners and small businesses planning to invest in solar PV.
Looking Ahead
While the decision to maintain the grant is a win for households and the solar industry, advocates urge further action, such as removing the 2020 cut-off that limits grant eligibility for newer homes and businesses. Doing so would help even more families reduce their energy bills and contribute to Ireland’s clean energy goals.
At Eco Energy Improvements, we’re thrilled by this announcement. With continued support from the government, investing in solar energy has never been more accessible. Whether you’re looking to lower your energy bills, increase the value of your home, or contribute to a greener future, now is the perfect time to go solar.
